Ingredients:
1lb fresh morel mushrooms (cleaned and halved lengthwise)
½ cup all-purpose flour
2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
3 egg
1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
Salt & pepper to taste
Optional: pinch of garlic powder or paprika
Frying oil
Instructions:
Clean the Morels
Gently brush off any dirt. Slice in half lengthwise and inspect for debris. Rinse briefly in cool water if needed, then pat dry thoroughly.
Set Up Your Coating Station
In one bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk.
In another, mix flour, bread crumbs with salt, pepper, and any optional spices like paprika, onion or garlic powder.
Coat the Morels
Dip each morel in the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour until well coated.
Fry Until Golden
Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat. When hot, add the coated morels and fry for 2–3 minutes per side, until crispy and golden brown.
Drain & Serve
Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle with flaky salt while still hot. Serve immediately.
Serving Tips:
For extra flavor, add your favorite seasoning to the milk and egg mixture
Enjoy with lemon wedges, aioli, or a light dipping sauce
